The 5 Hidden Costs of Clutter Impacting Our Wellbeing

"When things aren't adding up in your life, start subtracting."

Hello Reader!

I'm emerging from my digital detox and excited to be back in this space connecting with you!

What motivated me to reevaluate my tech habits has been because I've recently embarked on a journey to join forces with parents who believe childhood is too short to be spent on a smartphone. We work together with Smartphone Free Childhood and Delay Smartphones supporting the campaign and informing parents to make empowered decisions for their family.

In just a few short months, parents in St Albans has rallied and galvanised 30+ headteachers from Primary Schools in the area, and is aiming to be the first city in the UK smartphone-free for under-14s.

So what does this have to do with decluttering? A lot more than many think!

Did you know that studies have shown simply seeing clutter will trigger unhealthy coping mechanisms such as binge eating & binge watching?

...and this causes the domino effect - the home stresses you out, we turn to doom scrolling & mindless consumption, the house fills up with more things we don't need or have space for, the blue light impacts sleep quality, we have no energy to do the things or spend time with the people who matter most... and so the cycle continues...

I've personally witnessed family dynamics deteriorated, not to mention the mental health impact on everyone which leads to more reactivity.

Our homes are meant to be a sanctuary where we can truly find rest, unfortunately preventable lifestyle choices prevent that from happening.

As always, we start with the physical decluttering, and the KonMari Method gently helps us to reconnect our mind & body, redefine how we want to spend our time and realign back to joy & purpose.

By practicing with our physical belongings... we become very clear on what enters our homes & minds, especially the kind of content we consume to fill up our minds! (As a former true crime addict and doom scroller, I can attest to this - I can no longer stomach it!)

There are so many hidden costs of clutter harming our mental health & wellbeing - not only impacting us financially, but also costing our relationship and productivity.

I created a post over on Instagram, let me know which one resonates with you!

Simply tidying on the surface won't solve the underlying problems, leading to inevitable setbacks. This is why I'm so passionate about the KonMari Method, by getting to the root with compassion, lasting change is possible.

If you're keen to learn more to expand your energy and create more space for aligned joy, or interested in a digital detox, just reply back to this email :)

With love & gratitude,
Rebecca

"You must love in such a way that the person you love feels free." - Thích Nhất Hạnh Hi Reader, Love has been on my mind lately. Over the weekend, my husband and I celebrated 21 years since we first met - on Valentine’s Day, no less! The irony isn’t lost on me, considering we don’t celebrate commercial holidays 😅 We’ve both been stretched thin this past month, so I planned a last-minute staycation in our beautiful city, Edinburgh (note to self: never book Valentine’s weekend last-minute!) It...

"Action is the antidote to overwhelm." - Marie Forleo Hi Reader, I’ll be honest - I’ve had a wobbly start to February. I’ve been feeling stretched between solo parenting, hosting guests, new work schedules, kids’ term break, and anticipatory grief. It’s been a heady mix, and not gonna lie - my well-intended habits have taken a backseat. Device creep has been sneaking into my sanctuary, and as they say, it only takes two days to fall out of a habit...! Even my self-practice for yoga has...
